Rachel Jobst Photography: Preserving the Moments That Matter Most

There are photographers who take beautiful pictures, and then there are photographers who have a gift for making you feel something when you look at an image.

Rachel Jobst of Rachel Jobst Photography is the latter.

Based in Kalispell and serving couples, families, and clients throughout Montana, Rachel describes her work as honest, artful storytelling. Her goal isn't simply to document what a wedding day or portrait session looked like, but to preserve what it felt like. The laughter, the emotion, the quiet moments, and the relationships that make those memories meaningful.

Her hope is that the photographs she creates become more than images. She wants them to become heirlooms, photographs that are treasured today and passed down for generations.

From a Love of Photography to a Business

Rachel's journey with photography began long before Rachel Jobst Photography became a business.

She started photographing weddings while she was still in high school, eventually taking pictures for friends. When those friends began paying her for her work, she had a realization: “I could actually do this for real!”

And she did.

Rachel is a Washington native who fell in love with Montana while attending Montana State University, where she earned her degree in photography. Photography also runs in her family, both of her grandfathers were photographers, so her love for the art form has deep roots.

She has also loved weddings for as long as she can remember.

In fact, Rachel recalls begging her mom to drive by a local bridal shop simply so she could look at the dresses in the window display.

So when she realized she could combine two things she already loved, photography and weddings, she was hooked.

What started in Washington eventually followed her to Montana, where she has continued growing her business and serving clients throughout the state.

Choosing Quality Over Quantity

One of the things that stands out most about Rachel's business is that she intentionally chooses not to take on every client or project that comes her way.

When she first started, Rachel says she said yes to everything. But as she grew both as a photographer and as a business owner, she realized that narrowing her focus allowed her to serve her clients at a much higher level.

Today, Rachel specializes in luxury wedding photography and portraits, including couples, families, and select senior sessions.

She intentionally limits the number of clients she takes on because she wants to truly invest in each person she serves.

“I want to truly invest in my clients and serve them well,” she explains. “I can't do that if I'm pouring from an empty cup.”

That philosophy has become a defining part of her business.

Rather than focusing on booking as many clients as possible, Rachel focuses on creating an exceptional experience for the people who trust her with some of the most meaningful moments of their lives.

More Than Wedding Photography

Rachel's full-day wedding photography collections are her most popular service, and for good reason.

Her couples receive much more than someone showing up with a camera on their wedding day.

Her full-day collections include an engagement session, wedding album, vendor recommendations, and assistance with timeline planning. The goal is to create a full-service experience that helps couples feel supported throughout the process, not just photographed on the wedding day.

But Rachel's approach goes even deeper than the services included in a package.

She wants to understand what matters to her couples.

She asks personal questions before the wedding so she can learn what is most important to them and what they hope to remember when they look back at their wedding photographs 30 years from now.

For an anniversary session, that might mean learning a couple's favorite songs or snacks and incorporating those little details into their experience.

Those seemingly small touches are part of what makes Rachel's work so personal.

If Rachel's business had a motto, this would be it.

And honestly, it perfectly captures what makes her different.

Being photographed can be surprisingly vulnerable. Whether you're standing in front of a camera on your wedding day, during an engagement session, or surrounded by your family, it can be easy to feel awkward or self-conscious.

Rachel's goal is to change that.

“If I am doing my job well, then I am creating and stewarding a space where my clients are cared for, and feel they can trust me,” she says. “Only out of that trust will we create beautiful photos.”

Her clients consistently compliment her ability to help them relax. They describe her as kind, calm, supportive, and someone who can stay composed when things get stressful.

One of the most common things she hears after engagement and family sessions is that their time together was more fun than they expected.
